The BCIA offers a series of training courses which are delivered by the BCIA (in Peterborough) and by training partners Sontay Academy (in Edenbridge) and British Gas (in Rotherham). Courses available are:
- BCO Introduction to Building Controls and HVAC:
An introductory course designed for those who do not require the full technical detail of BC1-BC6, or who are new to this area of the industry. - BC1 Fundamentals of HVAC and Building Technology:
This course gives an overview of the systems and technologies used in the HVAC industry and includes the use of building controls and building management systems. Designed for those already involved in building controls that require a knowledge and understanding of the terminology, technologies and systems used. - BC2 Measuring & Control Technology:
Designed for engineers and technicians who have some knowledge and field experience with a minimum period of one year within the industry. It is recommended that BC1 is completed before this course. - BC3 Hydraulics in Building Services:
BC3 covers the main water circuits and systems and includes the necessary mechanical knowledge needed to understand applications, valve sizing and control. The course is designed for those who have some knowledge and a recommended minimum of one year field experience within the industry. It is recommended that BC1 is completed before this course. - BC4 Control Function in Heating Plants:
This course provides a detailed overview of all types of heating plant and systems together with the associated control applications. This is an advanced course for those who have a good level of knowledge and a recommended minimum of two years’ experience within the industry. It is recommended that BC1 is completed before this course. - BC5 Control of Ventilation and Air Conditioning:
Details the requirements of air conditioning plants and how they can be controlled effectively for energy efficiency. It is designed for those responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of building control technologies and systems for ventilation and air conditioning. This advanced course builds on the knowledge gained in the BC1-BC4 courses. - BC6 Control of Cooling Systems:
BC6 is a detailed, theory-based course relating to refrigeration and psychometrics, focusing on how the refrigeration process operates. This is an advanced course for those who have a good level of knowledge and a recommended minimum of two years’ experience within the industry. It is recommended that BC1 is completed before this course.
